ZIENER has further refined its climate targets and had them validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) at the end of February. The international organisation certifies that the targets are scientifically sound and align with the 1.5-degree goal of the Paris Agreement. With this validation, ZIENER is underlining its commitment to the fight against climate change. The family-owned company plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by 42 per cent by 2030 compared to the base year of 2020.
The verified climate targets meet the SBTi’s most stringent requirements, exclusively in the area of Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, i.e. emissions from the company’s own sites, energy generation and vehicle fleet. A key lever for reducing emissions was already implemented in 2024: significant progress has already been made by switching the two sites in Oberammergau to renewable energy sources, in particular biogas and green electricity.
“Validation by the SBTi is a milestone for ZIENER,” says Managing Director Frank Burig. “It confirms that we are on a scientifically sound path and are making our contribution to climate protection. “We will continue to pursue our measures consistently in order to achieve this ambitious goal. Environmental protection has always been a top priority for us. Practising outdoor sports such as skiing and cycling requires an intact environment. That is why we are actively committed to preserving it.“
ZIENER has been ClimatePartner-certified since 2021. In collaboration with ClimatePartner, greenhouse gas emissions are regularly calculated, reduction targets are set, measures are implemented and climate protection projects are funded.
